Same layout ?????? or not same layout??????
« on: November 26, 2011, 11:52:42 AM »
I currently redid my bowling bag.  I use to have a mutant cell solid and pearl, evil siege, c 3.5 i got rid of them all i hated playing on the left side of the lane with my 15 mph and 375 rev rate.   my pap is 6 1/8 over and 1 1/2 up

I recently got a track 716c which is at 2000 ab not polished and a  roto grip shooting star.

both balls were drill pin above the finger 5 X 4 X  2 1/2

I love the motion of both balls and love that im more to right side getting better carry and consistency. I was wanting to add a rising star to my bag..... The rising star and shooting star have same cores but different covers. Should I continue to drill my bowling balls with the same layout or do something different?? I bowl two nights a week. One on a THS and the other on a sport shot where we bowling on red, white and blue. I try to bowling in tournaments when ever I can no matter the pattern. My pro shop guy is suggesting that I drill all my stuff the same way. So instead of making major adjustments during matches I can stay near the same line and change balls as the patterns break down.

So my questions

1. Same layouts yes or no?
IF yes then question #2
2.should I buy the rising star that has the same core but different cover as the shooting star?

The Shooting Star overall can handle some more volume compared to the Rising Star.  You can probably get away with using the same type of layout since the cores are the exact same in both balls.  I will say that the Rising Star gives a ton of performance on medium-light oil and can be too strong sometimes on the light.  But, it definitely allows you to play multiple lines and is versatile.  I think you'll have a good combo there.

On my stuff, I typically adjust layouts according to conditions and found it works better for what I need.  I can still play similar lines with minimal adjustments.   Just keep in mind that different cores react differently with the same layout, so you may need to make some adjustments to get the ball reading the way you want.
