as of late during practice only, I have been trying the tommy jones theory on putting your thumb in the ball before adding your fingers.. now I know that this can help lessen the grip pressure on the fingers so your not grabbing the ball.. doing this I have noticed it helps create a lot more push through the fronts(the ball goes easier), but I have also noticed if my fingers aren't in the holes enough sometimes it make you grab the ball anyhow.. does anyone know if/when you are putting your thumb in first do you need to shorten your span alittle to get the right grip/snugness(did I create a word..lol..) on your fingers consistantly?? slashrr69

this topic has been discussed here many times
and as my usual answer, well... i never wanted to imitate TJ, but the first time i bowled, i did that and it felt comfortable, so i kept it
i cant bowl or even throw the ball correctly if i put my fingers in first. i usually have my thumb in first, then adjust it to the right feel then i put my fingers in. again, ppl might think im tryin to be TJ, but no, thats how i feel comfortable from the first day of my bowling life.
im not sure if its the driller not being able to make me a perfect fit or its just me, but theres no way i can accommodate my thumb in the hole when my fingers goes into the ball first. i think its due to my tight thumb hole, since i like to put the thumb in and twist a little bit.
by doin thumb in first, i never drop the ball unless i want to drop it intentionally for longer patterns
--------------------
When a house bowler misses the mark, misses the break point and strike, for many ppl its called a wallshot. When a pro does that its call adjustment
When a house bowler gets his finger stuck in the ball and fall on the lanes, for many ppl its called lame bowler. When a pro does that its called the Machuga flop! ha i like this one.

Always done it, fingers in first feels strange, i dont even practice it

I put my thumb in the ball first everytime. It's more comfortable for me this way.

Same here. But sometimes I would forget and just put my fingers in first. Either way works, but I like putting the thumb in first.

A half ten is not a great shot. No, you shouldn't have carried it.
