question
« on: July 06, 2003, 08:09:01 AM »
I have been bowling ever since i was a kid, but im starting to get serious now.  My current ball ( messenger titanium ) Has cracked all the way around so its time for a new ball.  My dad gave me an older zone that he didnt use much.  So i wanted to get that ball filled and drilled so i dont need to buy a brad new ball yet.  Now im going to the pro shop towmrorow and i dont know what to tell the guy.  I want the ball to go straight up the 5 board and break right into the pocket.  I'm right handed by the way.  What should i tell the guy at the shop?

You didn't give us near enough information.  You might not know everything, but tell us what you can.  Brunswick made a ton of Zone's, try to find out which one.  A dull proactive and a shiny pearlized reactive are two totally different animals.  We also need some information about you and the lanes.  What is your rev rate (at least high/medium/low), PAP, ball speed, do you throw on wood or synthetic, how much oil do they put down, what is the pattern, ....  There are tons of variables.  If the guy at the proshop is any good, he'll be able to tell what you need by watching you throw a few balls.  Hopefully you have something else that fits you that isn't cracked.  If all else fails, a label leverage is a safe option.  If your proshop can't find your PAP (and you can't go anywhere else), have him put the pin over and a little right of your ring finger and the CG near the center of your grip.

This is all i cna pretty much give you the ball is like light green.  Looks like theres an emblem that has a z and a c.  I throw the ball at about 16-17mph, the lane conditions change becasue i bowl at several differnet houses. thats pretty much all i can tell you.  And i belive the lanes are synthetic.
I hope some of this helps.

Think using a used ball is good.  Its in ok shape but does have a few deep gashes.  I was looking at new balls and the storm core power hrg caught my attention.  Is that a good ball could it be too powerfull then what i need?  Sorry i dont kno much aobut ball selection and the lanes i bowl at.

Well i finally got to the proshop and to plug and drill my used ball it woukld be about 70 bux.  so i bought a new ball. A 16 lb storm eraser pbt.  It took a chunk out of my wallet but im sure it was worth it.  Is this a good ball?  THe guy at the pro shop told me it was perfect for me.

70 bucks to plug and redrill a ball!! Man, that guy is smokin some good stuff. I would find someone else.  The guy at my pro shop charges $35 and thats full plug, redrill with grips and thumb slug.

I don't know much about storm balls, but good luck with it..

Don't know what your specs are cause you don't have a profile posted!! But in general, you can't go too far wrong with just using a generic leveage drill on the Zone. Since it's older, I'd go with a leverage shift off the the midline somewhat. At least you'll be able to read how the ball naturally hooks, in its current condition.

Oh yeah, my driller charges $36 for a plug, slug, and redrill! You might want to find another shop to deal with. The Eraser is a benchmark ball for Storm. You can't go wrong with it. It was used as the vehicle to set up all  their subsequent other lines of balls, much like the DangerZone did for Brunswick, and its other lines of Zones.
