Hello
I have a question about the legality of my ball
I bought a tropical storm, the pin was a little bit short, and it had too much top weight.
about 1.5 inch and 3 oz to be exact.. (NOT WHAT I ORDERED BUT OH WELL)
I wanted to it drilled weak,
so my pro shop guy drilled it with the pin right above the bridge right on the bridge infact, the bevel of the holes almost clip the pin with the CG directly below it
both finger holes are 3 inches deed (give or take).
The driller said it was right on the border line when it came to finger weights so he placed an extra hole. about 2 inches above the pin on the center line about half an inch around and about an inch deep.
now to my question, I know its hard to weigh but what are chances that this ball would NOT Be legal, also with the hole that close to the fingers would that cause any possible problems?

I'm pretty sure the ball is legal, otherwise your driller wouldn't have added the balance hole (specifically to be sure it was legal). Any problem you have will be from cracking from the finger holes to the pin. Be sure the finger holes have adequate bevel and keep a close eye on that area. -- JohnP

It's an unusual place for a weight hole, but it does exactly what you need it to do and doesn't change the side weight.
You couldn't go back and put in a weight hole on the side to fine tune your ball reaction since that would be two weight holes and you're only allowed one. But a reasonable tournament director or driller would recognize it as a weight hole.
I've wondered why holes like that aren't used more often. They let you get away with short pin lengths when you want to use layouts like that.

I've had several balls drilled over the years with an extra hole placed above the fingers to bring the weights into compliance. They passed inspection on the local level and at Nationals.
The rules specify size and quantity, nothing about location.
