Question about track on ball (rolls over thumb)
« on: March 22, 2007, 08:17:55 AM »
Ok, so a customer brings her ball in and says she got it drilled when she still lived in Colorado (im in Kansas) and it is the only ball she has right now. She supposedly had a different ball before. Anyway, the ball is drilled label with the about a 4" pin making the cg in center of grip (obviously) and the pin about 1 - 1.5" diagonally up and right of the ring finger (right handed). The way she throws the ball her track ranges from just above and inside of the thumbhole to about an inch down and left of the thumbhole. The flare lines do not remind me of a full roller, but maybe someone with an extremely low track.

Anyway, she bought a new ball off the internet (big shot) and wants it drilled. The pin is about 3". How would you recommend drilling this ball. Maybe pin beside or just above ring finger with the cg out to the right of grip?

Any help is appreciated...

Thanks

Can you try to describe the oil lines on the ball, and the way she release the ball?  Is she breaking her wrist at release point, a little back up release but not quite?  or is she release the ball above the equator?  really need more info.

That sounds like a full roller throwing a ball with a layout for a 3/4 roller.  The track will start between the thumb hole and finger holes and will flare into and possibly across the thumb.  Try to find a plastic ball she can throw to confirm this.  If she's a full roller, of course you have to use one of the layouts designed to reverse the flare in the grip area.  --  JohnP
