Question and help on flaring over figers/thumb?
« on: November 07, 2011, 12:31:58 AM »
Hello,

Picked up a 13lb. Trop Heat Hybrid for my senior Mom. She tracks really close to thumb hole due to the way she releases ball. She naturally has slow speed at 11 to 13 MPH. New ball is drilled pin over ring nearly stacked. No weight hole. Looks like this with the pin a hair lower near the finger

When she first threw the ball it tracked very tight to the thumb while clipping it loudly due to release. as she states she has bowled with the same release for 50 years, still averages low 170s and is not going to change. we gave it a slight scuff due to quite a bit of oil on the lanes & thru a couple of practice games she got out of it cleaner, so it stopped tracking over edge of thumb in the thru the skid and hook transition. The issue is when it gets into the last 15 feet or so and goes from hook to roll it clips horribly and loudly over the finger and thumb hole, flaring over nearly the grip center. She went to her Slingshot which is drilled pin over grip center with the MB swing out to the right of her ring and had no "clipping" issues all day.

Any advice on correcting this without plugging and re-drilling this new ball would be helpful before taking it back to the pro shop and getting their opinion?

Thanks in advance-

Gonz

Thanks for your response Backwards

In response to your questions, I do not know her PAP or tilt (I know that sounds bad and I know mine but unfortunately not hers as she lives in a different state though the pro does have it on file)

Same driller and exact same pitches, etc on both balls. Very quality pro shop with a very knowledgeable driller that ended her past issues with clipping holes, that is why she will go only to him.

The trop heat does flare a bit more then the slingshot, but she also throws a high flaring morich mania that did not clip (same driller again, same layout as Slingshot). I have nothing but total respect for the driller and definitely plan on taking it to him, though posted this beforehand for feedback as there are so many knowledgeable people on this site.

I think you are on to something with your weight hole feedback as both the mania and slingshot have a weight hole and the heat does not....

Thanks again!

Gonz

I use to track really close to my thumb sometimes i would hit the thumb. It was because of my hand position on the ball. with my two fingers in the grips my other two fingers were really really spread out as far as i could get them. Someone show me how by moving my pinky finger closer to the finger grips(like right next to it) it changed my axis rotation and tilt. I still track near my thumb but no where as close
