Assuming the pin to PAP distance remains the same, the closer the pin gets to the VAL, the more quickly the ball will respond to friction. A ball with a 5" pin to PAP that is only 1" away from the VAL will rev up very quickly when the ball encounters friction and make a sharp left turn. A ball with a 5" pin to PAP that is 4" away from the VAL will rev up slower when it encounters friction and have a more arching motion.
