Layout... how to do - what tools?
« on: March 12, 2007, 07:55:26 AM »
Hi!

The drillers around here are kind a lazy and don't take much vare into layouts... so I'd rather layout the ball myself than have it screwed by the lazy guy..

so what tools do I need to:
- measure PAP from the first track
- layout a ball with knowledge of the PAP

I took a look at the ebonite homepage and saw some stuff there but I don't know what I need...

At a bare minimum, you need a quarter scale.  You can find your PAP with one as long as you know where your initial (release) track is.  You can also use it to lay out the ball.  There are lots of other interesting tools out there (armadillo, ball compass, etc) that make the job easier, but aren't essential.

Thanks.... no another question...

How to get one of these?

Here in Germany it is almost impossible to get them without having a proshop running

Ditto Raven's comments. All you really need is a wax pencil and a Prosect quarter scale.

You can look at places like Buddies Pro Shop (http://www.buddiesproshop.com/products/11/Pro_Shop_Tools.htm).

If your pockets are over flowing with money, you can look at the really cool toys at Jayhawk (http://www.jayhawkbowling.com/Products/layout.html) and other similar companies like Innovative (https://www.shop.innovativebowling.com/categoryNavigationDocument.hg?categoryId=35).

I'm not sure about sites across the big pond though.

(Sorry to revert to German )

Danke - Thanks

I am not trying to get the quarter scale anymore... I made a decision to have my next ball punched not at my local proshop but at the next possible proshop... in Munich ... long way to drive but I hope to get a really good drilling..

The Tsunami I play right now is not drilled bad... I decided the layout myself... but my oiler the Carbide+ is screwed... the fillings stand up and are not grinded well and the layout is bulls hit... well learning the hard way...
