10:30 Drilling
« on: May 19, 2003, 01:05:09 PM »
Read or heard someplace that this 10:30 drilling tends to roll out more than others.  Any truth to it?  I've came to like that drilling in my silver, was planning on putting it in other balls.

would think so

cg closer to pap

or mb closer to val

which both promote earlier roll

Dont swing it-if you cant bring it

When in doubt-swing it out

Sr Keg,
It all depends on the ball surface, the lane conditions and how you throw the ball. For me, as long as you have head oil, that drill will be smoother arcing.

obviously those other factors that jeff mentioned will/would make a difference.

two identical balls (surface) on oily or dry lanes

the one drilled 5 x 3 will roll out before the 5 x 5

identical lanes-both dry or oily
a dull 5 x 3 will roll out before a 5 x 5
same for the shiny

if you throw it hard on oily lanes-neither will probably ever roll out.

obviuosy there are a few more factors
but this is a general statement

1fife,
true, I agree, but can we clarify?

Don't you really mean "roll sooner" rather than "roll out" ?

Just because the ball gets into a roll sooner doesn't mean it will necessarily roll out and potentially be "dead" at the pins.

Yes ??

Thanks for the info.  I had thought that drilling gave more length, stronger backend.  Guess its back to the drawing board.  Leave to many 8 pins, and as most of you know I don't have that much hand.

SrK,
what balls were you thinking about trying this drill on ? What conditions?

Jeff, not really drilling anything up, I've got the silver diamond with that drill and it's quickly became my favorite ball.  I read some comments a while back that recommended finding a favorite drill and drilling the majority of your equipment that way and using RG & sufaces to give a different look on the lane.

I got this ball in from Strapper^, just threw a new slug in the ball and fell in love with the drilling.  Great length and hit.  Proshop is the one that told me the 10:30 tended to roll out.  I hadn't noticed that, was just curious.
