Layout needed for ultra high tilt axis "spinner"
« on: November 21, 2015, 04:43:54 PM »
I need help please.  I have a bowler with an ultra high axis tilt.  Distance across the track is about 4 inches.  It's almost like an old school helicopter spinner from Taiwan, but jusy not that extreme.  The PAP is almost in the middle of the grip.  Its 1/2 inch over x 1/4 up.   I have been drilling actively for 15+ years and have never had any one come in with something like this.  I have watched him bowl, as he is in the same Monday night men's league with me. He wants me to drill a red Hammer Legend for him he just bought.  His existing equipment as you might expect skids and then tries to roll a few feet from the pins, as it has a layout more for a medium track player.  Whoever drilled it for him never watched him bowl.  Suggestions would be most appreciated.  Would this be a candidate for a Rico pattern?  Or what could anyone suggest if they have ever had one this extreme.  Speed is about 15-16 mph.   House pattern, fairly blocky, dry outside / wet inside, 40 feet.

Maybe the very low track layouts in this article will help?

Thanks for the link... however I found that article link yesterday before I put out the call for help.  At this time I do not have a subscription to Bowling This Month and do not really want to spend $38.00 for it.  I can check with a colleague to see if his is active, but I am doubtful he has it still either right now.
*** if any else has other info on drilling for an ultra low track, it would be appreciated.

Almost need a "pro CG" with the CG 2" right of the pin/MB line, in order to allow for a strong pin to PAP and CG to PAP, without having a weight hole on the left side of the grip...  Thus one is unique/interesting!

I would put the pin about 2" above and slightly left of the middle finger, and leave the MB in the thumb of slightly left of it. This should make for a close to 4 1/2" pin to PAP but about 1-1/2" to the VAL and a strong MB position. This will be the only way he will get some motion out of a strong ball that won't go forward at 50 feet.

I think 10 x 5 x 20-30 would be appropriate layout.  You need to get the ball to reach its PSA quickly to help reduce the skid and get the ball into the roll phase.

Being an old spinner type bowler, I used to drill up balls with low top, pin and cg close, on PAP. Hole on PAP for legal. Then use surface to get what I wanted.  It seemed like early imbalance just made me skid further then jerk harder on backend
