Well guy's I know that your going to find this hard to believe but, in all the years of bowling that I have done, I've never thrown a Hammer. However, I was so impressed with the movement of the Black Widow Bite that I Bought 2. Now I'm planning the layout's and Would like a little advice.

What I'm looking for is two totally different reactions, that will compliment each other well. One, I'd like to see get down the lane and make a strong move when it face's up to the pocket. The other I'd like to see turn up in the mid lane a little more and continue with a smooth controlled arc, but still retain carry power. I fell that this would be an ideal combo considering the sport patterns that I bowl on. Of course, I have the generic "standard layout" sheets that come with the ball but I've never really trusted them for myself. Both balls are 15 LBS, one has got an almost exactly 2" pin, the other has an almost 3"inch pin and both have a little over 3 oz top weight.

Here are my specs:

Power stroker/Tweener
17 to 18 MHP
High Track - PAP is 51/2 over 3/4 up

I have some Ideas but wanted to consult the experts before I punch these two beauties up tomorrow.
Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated.

4x4 with 1-2" buffer from the VAL for the long and strong.
2-3" from the PAP 105* layout (MB in track). I am growing to love this layout, I have 3 balls with it now. It is very strong in the midlane for me, strong arch, and very continuous.

I am no expert by any means but have been bowling for almost 30 years and as of late, have really been experimenting with layouts. I have a bite with the 4x4 on it also.

Another set of options:

"Long and strong" -- 5" pin to PAP, MB @ 75 degrees.

"Earlier and smooth" -- Rico

I would recommend against the RICO on this ball. I've got the RICO drill on a tropical storm, and there's a lot of movement in the last 4-5 feet of lane with it, signalling that the coverstock is overriding the drill, which may also occur with a bite. I'd be interested to know how a 2" pin-PAP might work with a bite, putting the MB near to the thumbhole.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that reaction is at 1000 grit. In order to get the smooth reaction the ball would probably have to be around 360-500 and then the overall hook would be too much for what I want...
