Wizard Ball Plug
« on: April 25, 2007, 01:08:32 AM »
Our shop has switched to this ball plug and I have a question id anyone can help. When mixing color into the plug, how do you keep the color to stay the color you are wanting. It seems everytime the color comes out a lighter shade than desired. I know the directions say mixing the two will cause the plug to turn white. And thad you are suppose to add 15 drops of black or red, and 12 drops for all other colors. Should we be using Wizard colors also, or could it be the colors we have in the Pro Shop are causing this. Any info will be appreciated.

If your not using the wizard color kit, you can use the regular coloring kits from DBA, you then have to add more than 15 drops. you end up using more coloring.

The DBA dye is very fluid, and the Wizard is more thick.
I've been told in the past you can use paint craft acrylic paints in regular slow curing plug. paint to color plugging.

I have tried 15,20, and 25 drops of black and I haven't even gotten close to it.

That's a ridiculous number of drops.  We use the Powerhouse (Ebonite) stuff, and for any one color 5 or 6 drops is enough.

The trick that I have found to be somewhat successful (not perfect mind you) is that I add the correct number of drops (ie) 12 of color and then add 1, 2, or 3 drops of black.  The black seems to offset the turning white and lightening the plug color.  For the most part I have been fairly impressed with the Wizard plug material and ease of use.  But, the color matching has been hit and miss.  I did not buy the Wizard color, I'm sure that would make up the difference but I still had quite a bit of the Master color and have been using it up first.  Hope this helps.  Scott

I don't use Wizard for regular ball plugging, only exactacated molds and quick pitch plugging.
