5.5 - 6" pin-> drilling ideas ????????
« on: November 30, 2004, 02:45:23 PM »
I bought a Pro Thing with a 5.5 - 6" pin. Not to sure on the layout. I've heard to drill the thumb hole on top of the CG deep,or drill stacked- put the pin real high? I've layed the ball already. Pin over ring, cg next to thumb -> 5x3 . How will the pin distance effect the ball. My other choice in a layout would be as stated above thumb hole on cg, pin next to fingers( leverage ). my pap is 5 1/2 X 1, above ave. speed and revs. I'd like a hard arc rather that a skid/flip. Any help would be great. thanks

One of the local hotshots (of course he has the resume to be a hotshot, but back to the topic) got a Vendetta Particle with a 5-6 inch pin.  The pro shop guy put the pin above the fingers and the CG on the PAP, with a large weight hole to get it back to legal.  Ball got down the lane in a hurry and made a left turn like you wouldn't believe.

dave300 -- Before you do anything else, check the accuracy of the cg location on a dodo scale.  It's not unusual to find that the cg is off.  --  JohnP

For a more arcing reaction on a long pin ball, try placing the pin about 2 inches above the PAP and the cg in the grip center.

As JohnP said, be sure to verify the cg location before drilling.
