It depends on what type of plug compound the driller uses.  Some of the quick set types will harden quickly enough to allow a full job to be done in less than a day.  The longer set types take a day each for the thumb and fingers, or two days total.  I personally like to give each area plugged at least two days, so I take a total of three days to do a complete job.  I have never used the quick set resins myself, but have heard other drillers say that they are not totally satisfied with the final job using them.  --  JohnP

Have a friend who used the 'quick set' junk, and that's what he called it...junk. He said it did separate, had air bubbles, overall he doesn't use it any more.

I'd prefer to take 2-3 days, fill thumb half way..fill next morning and fingers same way. IMO, slower is better in this case. JMO.

Unless you're a pro shop owner, I'd suggest - don't rush it. When the driller says it's ready, then it's ready. Most can do it safely, within the confines of "there's other pr shop business that also needs to be done", 2-3 days.

A plug seems simple and straight forward but there's a lot that has to be done the right way. Of course if your driller is conatntly telling you 1 week, maybe he's not planning his work schedule very well or you've offended him some time in the past.
