Reverse vs forward pitch in thumb

I have currentley 1/4 forward pitch in my fingers and 0 pitch in my thumb. Does the forward pitch in thumb make you release the ball easier?

"Easier" is a comparative term. Easier than what?

More Forward or Less reverse pitch (not necessarily true forward or true reverse), just less than you had previosuly)  when properly matched with the right span will USUALLY allow you to use less pressure to hold on to the ball and, thus, allow you to release it with less focus and concentration on the grip and your timing, and more on your whole delivery.

If you notice, there are 8 or 10 variables at work here, not just the fact of forward or reverse thumb pitches.

If you find that you need to grip the ball, forward pitch is what you'll need..although, too much forward pitch can cause you to hang onto the ball.

Forward pitch in the thumb = less revs and more length down the lane. It does make it harder to get a clean release. There is less room for error, whcih means you're locked into a certain position to release the ball.

While this may seem good, you leave no room for error. Because we are not robots, this doesn't wrok as good as you'd expect. =:^D

I don't agree with that at all.  If the pitches are correct for your hand, you won't lose revs, accuracy, or control.  Although it is more important to get the bevel right, your rev rate might actually increase because you won't be squeezing the ball.  I went from 5/16" reverse to 9/16" forward (5/8" forward in my XXXL) and I haven't lost any revs and it hasn't kept me from releasing the ball in any particular fashion.

In general, the more reverse you have, the faster the ball wants to come off your hand.  If it's too much (reverse), you have to squeeze the ball to keep it from dropping off your hand too early.  Most people don't even realize how much they squeeze the ball until they are shown a better way.  I'm living  proof of that.

i agree with strider.at the gathering ron clifton told me i was gripping the ball too much so i took my thumb pitch from 1/4 reverse to 1/8 reverse and shortened my span 1/8 inch both fingers and i can tell that i am not gripping the ball as much and i have not lost any revs.in fact since i'm not gripping the ball as much i gained some revs.my ball is moving on the backend more than it ever has.i'm changing all mine balls like that.

Everyone is different for instance I use 5/8 reverse pitch and 0 right or left if I go with less pitch in my thumb hole than that I hang up in the ball on the thumb and end up pulling most shots.The key for me is to make sure the thumb hole is really snug,this allows me to relax my thumb without dropping the ball.

On Ron Clifton's advice, I went from 1/2 reverse to 3/8 forward. I actually tried 1/2 forward, but it was a bit too much.

I've stopped squeezing the ball as bad, so I've actually increased revs, accuracy,  and carry.

Now - if I could just come back from the shoulder injury and get my speed back, all would be well with the world!

I agree with T-God...there is little leeway if one gets too far forward for their anatomy.

A regional PBA star in my area was enamored with forward pitch for a while...we gave him a slight tweak back in reverse and he has gone from a slump area 217 average up unto just under 240.  He is shooting tons of 300 games where for a period he had none and notching very high placements in his first regionals in some years.

There is the matter of basic flexibility.

Taking this all in...I just moved about 1/8(ending at 1/8 reverse)  forward on a pitch on a longer span I had used and it has made a nice difference.

Many who make moves greater than that have to shorten their span.

REmember...forward PITCH is not a goal...GREAT BALL ROLL and a great release is!

I can tell you that TGOD....KNOWS...good releases!  He could be called RELEASE God!  I had the chance to meet up with him in my travels this year!  He is very modest about his abilities and knowledge!
