hi guys i have a 1-2 inch pin TA which i want to have an asymetrical flip layout on it. but the pro shop operator doesnt know what im referrin to. He believes that the way i describe it is not gonna make the ball legal (too much finger and side weight which by drilling a weight hole is not gonna be enough)
the layout i suggested was taken from the "team Morich" video.

how should i tell him to drill this ball? this is a 16lb with 2.7 tw.

Give everybody your layout specs and your pap and ask for opinions. From what I've picked up on this board a weight hole can bring any ball back to static legal. Just depends on how big and how deep a hole you need.

I find it hard to believe that you wouldn't be able to make the ball legal with regards to static weights with any drilling.

As far as the asymmetrical flip layout, I'm not 100% sure on the exact specs, but I thought it was something like a 4 1/2 pin to PAP and a 4 1/2 MB to PAP with the pin like 3-4"(?) above the mid-line?

With a short pin ball, the cg would be close to or possibly above the fingers depending on span... With this layout you may need to drill the fingers extra deep (helping to remove a little extra weight) and probably going to need a weight hole around or slightly above the fingers... simplest way is to draw a line from the center of grip through the center of gravity and place the weight hole at the intersection of that line and the VAL. Hole size will depend upon the amount of weight required to be removed to get within legal statics.

With only 2.7 ounces on top, Assym flip will be do-ale on that ball. Just have him drill the fingers deeper, and use the extra hole accodringly. Throw the ball before the hole to see what the ball does. If you like it, drill a hole on the VAL, above the midline. If you want sharper, target hole the ball, but pitch the hole 1 1/4" away from the grip center. I would take the ball to about 1/2 ounce side after the hole to leave yourself with more room to adjust later.

i think the driller didnt want to experiment with stuff that has not been proven, and put his reputation at risk since hes afraid that i go back to him and say this ball doesnt hook.

at that time i tried to explain to him that we can actually drill the ring finger deeper and a big x-hole is not a problem, but he refused and recommended a pin under ring with cg stacked for a very even reaction.

next time if i go to the driller im going to give him the video of team morich so he actually sees the asymetrical flip drill and work on something from there.

I he is afraid to drill the ball the way YOU say to drill it, I would go somewhere else. The only way his reputation is ruined is if he misses on the drilling, and your grip is off. This is the layout yu want, and he should respect that.

LOL.. that could very well be... But then he's going to get stuck drilling most every ball in a similar fashion (wasn't comfortable to him). Our local pro is similar. He uses almost exclusively equipment with pin on grip line and cg stacked below (short pin out distances). I'm still not sure why all of his equipment is layed out this way (as he's by no means a cranker or even a tweener)..but it is. So anytime anyone is looking for a layout, he says, I know a layout that will roll well for you (regardless of ball, bowler, PAP (doesn't even look at that!) and suggest his stacked layout.

I love playing around with different layouts/drills, especially when someone comes into the shop after doing their homework and actually knows a little bit about it... I say, let's give it a whirl.

You may have to drive to find someone who knows a little more about layouts. I for one would not tolerate the same(safe) type layouts on all of my equipment. With only 2.7 top weight, you can easily get that ball back to legal with just about any type layout. Is he old school?

i dont have car, never did the driving test so im far away from bein able to drive (i should do it soon)

actually we did drive pretty far to get our balls drilled. around 120 km taking proly 80-90 mins. This guy is pretty good at fittin, something that my local alley proshop CANT do, and the balls he has drilled for me were very comfortable. He was not rude or anything just didnt want to risk it (i didnt purchase the ball from him) which i understand. My friend recommended me to get more details on the layout from this forum and morich website, and next time we go there we will know exactly what to do so risk will be reduced to 0.

thx for the help, i got exact drillin instructions from morich tech support and next time we go there, i'll get my TA drilled

i cant wait for that heheheh
