Rico Layout
« on: July 30, 2006, 03:07:26 PM »
I have seen some people on here that are using the Rico layout, pin in center of grip. could someone tell me what type of reaction this gives. does the cg and mass bias positions need to be placed in a certain position. if it helps my pap is 5 1/4" over and 1/2" up. Any info would be appreciated.

If I am not mistaken, Pin in palm on center line and cg placed at 45 degrees. Add a weight hole at 6-3/4" from the pin on a line through the cg. Where the MB should be if its a symmetrical ball.

Since you are a high tracker you would be wise to put the pin 1/2 inch above your midline on your gripline (palm).  That way when you place the weight hole on your VAL it will push the bowtie above your fingers.  Make sure you use this layout on a ball with specs in the 2.49-2.52 Rg range with a Diff of at least .049 and a pin/cg of 2-2.5 inches.

This will take an aggressive ball and give it good length with very hard arc (control) and continuation through the pins.  I have this layout on an Element AU79 and it is my first ball out of the bag on a med-heavy sport shot over 34' in length.  This is a great layout for bowlers who tend to over hit the ball at the bottom.

Good luck

Thanks for the input everyone. I think the next ball i get i might try this layout, and yes Todd, i do tend to over hit the ball at the bottom sometimes.

there is a pic of it in my profile, its on my action packed. im a high tracker and i love this layout. it clears the heads fine, probably because of the cover and revs hard at around 35 feet, BUT it dosent stop, my driller said that it might, but it dosent. it dosent snap, but it definatly isint smooth, id say right inbetween those actually. it increased the hook potential imo, because right now its out hooking everything in my bag by far, my UI xception intence inferno and wmb. it will definatly be on my heavy oil ball.

this was laid out with the help of Ric "Rico" Hamlin.

my PAP is over 4 3/4" up 1/4"

so the x-hole should be centered 4 3/4" down the PIN to MB line - 1" bit 2" deep.

original specs, 15lbs 15oz 1.5" pin 2.2 Top Weight.

wouldnt know, havent drilled it yet

Im worried about the finish factor of it.

we'll see, I dont plan on getting it drilled anytime soon.

I have too many balls and too little bowling to do.

mine hits like a bus, and rolls great, it starts a little earlier than you might expect, but it dosent roll out, it just keeps going through the pins.
