I have got the wrist checked and carpal tunnel but not a major case. Doc said that I needed to work on my bowling grip to ease tension but did not tell me to stop bowling.
The next best thing to do is to reduce pressure on the tendons. They get overstressed when you try to put apply more force than your muscles are capable of applying. Don't forget the tendons are the attachment of the muscles to the bone. What you apply with your muscles go through the tendons to the bone.
So increasing the strength of your wrist, forearm and hand, can help reduce tension on the tendons. BUT any exercise that does this will necessarily put pressure on these same tendons; so the help of a physical therapist (prescription from the doctor) is necessary so you don't overtax those tendons and make the carpal tunnel worse.
As far as reducing pressure via your grip, (as far as I have learned) forward thumb pitch and reverse finger pitch will help. But these potential grip changes have to be worked out with a well educated driller, in person. Plus the span changes with any pitch changes.
Next a good wrist device will also help reduce pressure on the tendons. I have used this device in the past to help with severe tendonitis in my ringer finger.
