Squeezing Problem
« on: December 12, 2006, 07:08:48 PM »
What is the best solution to keep me from squeezing my bowling ball? I'm developing quite a blister/callous on the outside knuckle of my right hand. Also, it appears that I'm getting a bruise on the same thumb opposite of my fingernail. Any help would be great. For the record, it seems as though I'm getting my mechanics back in sync, since my exteneded layoff. I'm rolling the ball better than ever now. I'm just not happy with my thumb swelling. Thanks.

Span? Pitches?

How loose is your thumbhole would you say?

What kind of grips do you use?

You say your thumb is extremely snug, but apparently there is enough room to crimp your thumb or you wouldn't be rubbing on the knuckle. Also, what is your grip pressure like? You should be gripping the ball like you would hold a "baby bird" or at least as gently as a raw egg. Any more pressure than this is counter-productive. The other factor impossible for us to assess is whether or not your span is correct. Too long or too short, combined with lots of grip pressure and just a little extra room in the thumbhole could cause what you describe.

I don't know if I use too much grip pressure or not. I've had the same pitches and span for over 4 years without a problem....
