Got my hands on some Ebonite X-outs really cheap. My question is what is a good layout for a ball with a 5-6 inch pin (in general), what to look out for, and your experiences?

Interesting I just got a ebonite striking motion x-out with a 5 1/4" pin.
haven't even thrown it yet.

Heres a picture of the layout which is similar to the #1 drilling on the drill sheet

Pin Length-5.25"
CG 1â€ left of Reference line, 2â€ from MB
Starting Top Weight-3oz.
Ball Weight-16lbs.

Pin to PAP 3 1/2"
CG to PAP 5 1/4"

yeah i got a striking motion also that looks alot like yours. havent drilled it yet (tomorrow actually)

Do a Dual Angle Layout with the pin in your comfort area and you will just have to put a weight hole in the P2 or P3 area to remove the thumb weight. Also, drill the fingers a little more on the shallow side and the thumb hole a little deeper as well if needed.

used the x-out striking motion for our city tournament today. (Team event)
bowled 181-208-233=622 only 3 opens
Used it all three games, pattern including buff around 40', looked like 10-10 oil, pattern was kinda flat. say a flat tophat.

started on 20 shooting 2nd arrow, last game moved to 23 shooting about 13 out to around 10.

Ball(OOB finish) was very consistent and had good continuation at the pins. First game may have carried a little better if I could have put a couple extra revs on it.

Leaking the ball out, it had good recovery. Pull it and it held well. wasn't jumpy at all.

Paradigm with an 11.5-inch pin here. Rolls completely different than my other Paradigm and is statically legal.

It's pretty much that ball that keeps me from calling BS on statics/CG on newer equipment, because I and anyone else I let throw the two balls come up with very different reactions on each despite the fact the pin and MB are virtually in the same place on both balls.
