Router VS. Straight Shank Plug Cutter
« on: July 18, 2009, 03:38:30 PM »
For Pro Shop owners and people drilling at home... everybody's opinion is wanted!

I have always used a Router with a Plastic Shield to cut THUMB SLUGS down and PLUG down. But I noticed on http://www.innovativebowling.com/ website, that have supposedly come out with a newer Straight Shank Plug Cutter that has been RE-DESIGNED compared to the one that came out years ago.

I know the one from years ago, would leave a Scraped Line all the way around the ball when you would use it... but they claim this new design won't.

Has anybody tried this and what are the PRO's and CON's of using of these compared to a Router?

Some VIDEO'S about this is in the following links:

http://www.shop.innovativebowling.com/product.sc?categoryId=-1&productId=163
 - there's a VIDEO in this link that shows a demonstration of how it works and talks about the CHANGES made with this new Design

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRqqulZxRqU
 - this VIDEO shows it being used on an actual ball

Thoughts?

Ric,

I helped innovative with creating those videos, and it works exactly as shown.  I dont even have a router in my at home pro shop, no need for one with this tool.  If you have any questions about it feel free to email or call innovative directly...they will be glad to help you out.

I can't watch the vid at work, but i will assume it is the same cutter that came with our press. The edges are not sharp, they are actually slightly rounded, and it works really well. Can pretty touch the ball with it and no worries. Its a great product. I remember when we first looked at it, we were wondering how the hell it was gonna cut, but it does, very smooth also.

I just got mine in the mail and I must say it is quiet Unique!

The Blade can touch the actual ball and it doesn't even scrap it!

When you are cutting the Ball Plug or Thumb Slug down... the Cutter will cut it down without a problem and then when the Plug or Slug is level with the rest of the ball, the Cutter seems to know it because it's almost like it just quits cutting (therefore not scraping the ball at all)!

I don't know how I survived all this time without one of these! My Router won't be needed much at all anymore!
