Weight holes
« on: February 18, 2009, 05:32:20 PM »
From what I have seen there are different schools of thought on weight holes.
Does anybody have a tutorial that explains the ins and outs and wheres of weight holes?  yes.. i have read the gradient line and don't like it all that much because it doesn't really take into account the pin to pap difference.. and if you have a 5.5 "pin to pap .. putting a hole on the PAP will not reduce the reaction (reduce rg diff) a signifcant amount.. or atleast not as much as a pin that is 2" to the pap.. P4 will be the most for any layout because the MB spot is 6 3/4 from the pin.

I will just throw out my thinking.. correct or add anything as needed..
hole 3 3/8 from the pin will take weight equally out of the side and top of core and change ball dynamics the least.. the most minimal amount...
closer to the pin than 3 3/8 with take weight out of the top of the core thus lowering the rg and allowing the ball to rev up easier.... the lower rg will also lower the RG differential.. so although the ball revs up more it will flare less.. so I'm not sure how that changes the reaction..(thinking smoother, less hook and less backend)
a hole closer to 6 3/4 from the pin will take weight out of the side of the core and increase the rg differential and increase the flare.. I believe it will also raise the rg of the core.. ( more hook and more backend)
I do not know the difference in reaction between say a hole 6 3/4 from the pin that is in the thumb quandrant vs a hole 6 3/4 from the pin that is past the PAP.  I know this changes the bowtie but I do not know if there is a difference in ball reaction.

thanks for the help
