Pin-cg-Mb not in line
« on: November 09, 2008, 11:15:32 PM »
I'm pretty sure I know what the answer would be but....

There is a ball I'm considering to purchase, but Pin-cg-Mb are not in line.

I'm right-handed, and the cg is about two inches to the right off line.

The ball is question is 14lb. 3oz. with 3 1/2 " PIN and 2.4 TOP and the cg is 2" to the right of the pin/mb line.

I intend to have it drilled pin-down.

It doesn't matter, does it?

It won't matter in regards to the reaction other than you will have to put a weight hole in it.

I would suggest laying it out and seeing what the statics are so you know how big a weight hole you will need. Most PSA balls, weight holes have less affect on overall reaction unless you place in the PSA. Throw the ball first seeing how it reacts and then go from there.

Thanks Ric.

los2003, probably between 45-60 degree, pin down, as I have had most sucess with this kind of lay-outs before.

With only 2.4oz of top weight, you shouldn't have any trouble keeping it legal.

This statement seems a bit contradictory to me. Weight holes SUPPOSEDLY change the core shape. So if you're using a hole vs. not, the ball reaction will be different..!! Correct..? I'm just going by what you all been teaching everyone.

Please explain to me how a ball with a weight hole can roll the same as a ball with no weight hole..? =:^D

How many high differential PSA/mass bias balls have you drilled?
The higher the PSA/mass bias differential is, the less effect a weight hole has, unless it is drilled directly in the PSA/mass bias. The only other way a weight hole could or would effect a high PSA/mass bias core (not placed in the PSA/mass bias), is if you place a 1 1/4" bit X 3" deep.

You are entitled to your opinion, but I will and do disagree with you on this.
The higher the aysmmetrical differential, the less effect a weight hole has on reaction. When I was with Brunswick, we tested this. If you place the weight hole in the PSA, it will alter the differential, increasing it. Anywhere else, it very little effect in the overall reaction. In symmetrical core balls, weight holes have more of a reaction altering effect.

Now, I am sure the argument will be made, that it has the same amount of influence as static weights or CG placements, good luck with that. You use your theories and I will use mine.

Rico,

Makes sense to me the way you described everything.  As we all know, asymetrical cored balls tend to be more violent whereas symetricals tend to be smoother rolling pieces.  Therefore, you take a asym ball and make it even stronger, the less effect a weight hole will have.  Dont see the argument in that.

JR, first of all, nowhere did Charlie B say he was purchasing a "high differential PSA" ball. Second,
quote:

You state there is more difference if the hole is placed in the PSA. Maybe he would put the hole in the PSA. He didn't say either way if he would or wound't put the hole there.

I'm sorry, but you talk in circles and say whatever it takes to make you sound correct. Like Precision said, you can't have it both ways.

Have you thought of being a politician..? I think you should run for office..!!  =:^D
