Bradl,
May I make a simple suggestion that really helped me out in this same situation. Let me explain…
Before the last year and a half ago, I used to be the guy who walked in the pro shop and did the same exact thing. Although I knew the exact ball that I wanted, when it came to the layout of the ball, I would tell the ball driller where I wanted the location of the pin and mass bias, depending on the ball.
I did not fully understand the dual angle or pin buffer systems when it came to drilling the ball. I just took my drillers word when it came to those things. I knew the difference with pin up / pin down and how I wanted my ball to “look†in terms of the drilling. When it came to RG and differential, I paid no attention to those things, simply because I knew what I wanted. And for the most part, that method was successful for me.
However, here is where my suggestion comes in. YouTube is best place to find instructional videos about the dual angle layout and pin buffer drilling systems. In fact, check out the Storm, Radical, and Motiv videos “firstâ€. When you go to YouTube, do a search on “dual angle layouts†and watch EVERY video on the subject. Then, watch them again until you understand them. And then, take notes! LOL. The ones from Storm and Radical are absolutely excellent and helped me tremendously. There are other videos as well, but start there.
I literally have learned so much over the past year and a half when it comes to ball reaction and layouts, that I can now walk into my pro shop and lay the balls out for myself. Seriously. The only thing that I can’t do is drill. LOL. I usually have my ball driller check my accuracy and then have him drill the ball. Am I an expert now? No, by no means. However, I do now know exactly how ALL of my equipment is drilled and what the differences are. And another benefit of it all is that I can’t blame the pro shop for a bad reaction. LOL.
Lastly for you, my suggestion to you would be to NOT purchase another ball or choose a layout until you fully understand what the numbers really mean, if you don't already. You’re welcome in advance! LOL!
Peace!
