Short pin question

Simply .... anyone ever try a short pin layout on an asym?

I have had luck with sym solids and tweaking the surface to get the length I want.  Currently I have a Winner solid drilled with 1-3/4" pin to pap. Its perfect for playing the gutter.  I'd like something with a little earlier read ... maybe a couple feet sooner.  I have though about another Winner solid (they are on closeout locally) with a little more surface and a 2-1/2" pin.

Mo Pinel has a video of short pins distance. I think he recommends against 2 1/2", There is a range he says to stay away from but I'm not 100% sure off hand.

Mo actually recommends doing short pin on asymms. I believe the regular pin to pap used is 2 1/4.

In my mind, I'd go with something stronger than the Winner Solid just to give yourself a little more separation.

I have actually done it on 2, Sure Lock & Hyper Cell Fused.  Both were 90 x 2 1/4" x 45.  Sure Lock was good at USBC on team pattern, but, was useless everywhere else.   Fused has been amazing on house patterns.  I haven't used it on anything else.

Per a good friend (and knowledgeable layout guru) recommendation, I went 1.5x6x1 on two different asyms, a PhysiX and a Gravity Evolve. Sadly, due to COVID cancelling 99% of the tournaments that I'd like to bowl, I really haven't gotten the chance to test them on the tougher patterns that they're intended for yet. However, even on a house shot, these give me a very nice look. They smooth reaction out over the course of the lane without completely puking and dying. Personally, I like what I've seen from them so far.
