Question about weight removal ...
« on: September 27, 2006, 07:15:43 AM »
To all fellow ball drillers !
I recently was throwing a 15 # ball that I drilled
last year and was throwing it during the summer and
it felt alot heavier than others. The question I had
was, how much weight is removed on average when you
are drilling a ball (fingertip grips and 1 1/4 slug,
and a weight hole). I lost the box of the ball I was
drilling, so it could be a heavier 15 to start. I want
to probably start ordering with 15 even or 15 and 2 oz
or less. How many ounces are we taking out about. When
you start getting close to 50, the weights start to
matter.

Thanks,

Probably between 3 and 4 ounces.  Even though you're drilling the holes larger to make room for inserts or slugs, some of that weight is being put back by the insert and slug material.

If you're still wanting to throw 15# but need to get the weight down, see if you can find some in the 14# 14oz to 15# 1oz range.  Those will feel a little lighter than the usual 15# 3-4oz balls.  Not much, though.

Shelley,
What was weird was, this ball almost felt like a
16# that I was throwing. I am pretty good about setting
my pitches right, but this one felt strange, while I
had 4 other balls with me during that leagues session,
I felt a strain holding this one.
I probably will go with the 15 evens or 14 15oz if
I can find in the future.

Did you weigh the ball?  Maybe it was a 16 pounder in a 15 lb box.  --  JohnP
