What's the Difference?
« on: December 25, 2003, 08:51:37 AM »
What is the difference between Track Circumference and Track Diameter?

true or false low track players (pap's 3-4) can still have a large track circumference/diameter?

A low track player can still have a large diameter. I've seen a cranker with a PAP that had cordinates of 2 over and 1 up. but had a larger track diameter than myself, and my pap is 4 3/4 over

a low tracker and a small tracker are two different things. I think but am not certain but i remember seeing Brian Himmler a few years ago using a Super Power and his visible oil rings were low but he still had a large diameter track.

There are endless combinations of roll types so anything is possible. One player around here, has a release of tracking so high some balls flare backwards. the layout that seemed to finally work for him was using the Marked MB as your pin and pin in the thumb quad. looks odd but works. and those were on the recommendations of Big Chris S on storm's pro staff.

Greg T -- For your equation to hold true, the diameter must be measured in the same plane as the circumference.  If you measure the diameter over the surface of the ball it won't work.  --  JohnP

Well, I guess there is a little bit confusion in terminology.
I'm not sure about what the "diameter" stands here for and do not want to be a smartass. So if I'm wrong, please correct me.
Two point of views, two different meanings;
1- If it is a simple geometry, you can not measure a diameter over the surface. Of course it must be measured in the same plane as the circumference.
In this regard, Greg T, you are 100% correct. And, king of the mill, I must respectfully disagree with you here. It is not an arc, it is direct line through the ball, extending from one side of the track to the other.
2- Diameter may stand for a unique meaning for the particular explanation which king of the mill has stated. Then in this case "diameter" holds a meaning other than basic geometry. If this is the case Greg T will be wrong and I will owe king of the mill an apology

Just my 2 cents..
