Strange layout
« on: April 04, 2010, 01:43:33 AM »
I bowled a tournament yesterday and saw this woman have a layout on her ball I have never seen. The ball had the pin to the left of her hand which was a right hand drill, and the pin was between her index finger and her thumb. The ball didnt have any backend to it which was good with the lanes hooking big time. Her ball would break about 3-4 boards and she shot very well with the lanes hooking.

Anyone know this drilling?

I think it is like a hookset drilling meant to hook in the front and midlane and just layoff in the backend

really depends on her PAP.  If she had a lower track, it could have been a 5 or 5.5" pin to PAP layout... just happened to have the pin low... help the ball start up.  On the toasted lanes, it would reach just as stated... break a couple boards, hook out / roll out and have little backend...

As mentioned it all relies on the person axis point. I have a not so typical PAP and it causes a 5" to pap to be to the left of my middle finger (i'm right handed) it may look goofy but it works just the same as someone else when laying the ball out using their specs.

Its too hard to say but it was probably a longer pin to axis and low pin placement to cause the ball to have a long point of transition downlane and the flare assuming the ball was a symmetric before drilling to be reduced causing a smooth reaction with not much downlane.

How did the women throw the ball?

Did she look like a type of full roller?

Sounds like a standard full roller layout, pin 45* from grip center into the negatie thumb quadrant and 3 3/8" from the grip center.  --  JohnP

John,

Double check the poster's post. I don't think the pin was at 45 degrees. He says the pin was to the left and "between her index finger and her thumb". I'm assuming halfway between middle finger (not index ) and thumb. Almost like an offset Rico, like 1-2" left of the center of the grip???

I wonder where the CG or the MB was???

We don't really have enough information to do anything but guess, and there's a lot of area between the index finger (I have no reason to doubt the post) and the thumb.  At least one manufacturer (maybe Brunswick) shows the pin at 60* from grip center instead of 45*.  The description of the ball reaction on dry lanes is fairly typical for a low rev full roller, which quite a few ladies are.  --  JohnP

She did not throw a full roller. Her fingers came out last and was somewhat behind the ball at release. I know she shot 255 and I shot 147 on the same shot 1 pair apart. I threw everything in my bag till I went to my Morich Awesome finish and had to stand 30 plus and throw over 20ish out to about 15 to get the ball to not over hook.

She supposedly carries 200 plus and she sure out shot me the first game. And to clarify the drilling from what I saw, the pin was at 90* to the left of her span inbetween her index finger and her thumb.

I could see the pin on the inside of her thumb and finger at straight across from the web of her hand. The drilling sure worked for her on hookers.

Did you actually look at her track?  --  JohnP

Depending on her PAP it could be a pin axis drilling.

To be honest, I was not happy when I shot 147 the first game and lost every bracket I was in expect the blind bracket. It only cost me $80, so I wasn't looking at someone I didn't know track.

Hey, I understand.  I can't make a strong argument for her being a full roller because I haven't seen either her release or ball track.  I can tell you I've seen some releases that I would have sworn were 3/4 roller that turned out to be full roller when I looked at the track to check their PAP location.  And I've seen some I thought were full rollers that turned out to be 3/4.  --  JohnP
