rollout help
« on: January 14, 2007, 07:57:21 AM »
Got an older gent with very slow ball speed, low track, decent rotation. Decided to put him in a Doom. Problem : has had a lot of balls roll out on him. Last was a Hot Rod pro stock pearl that had a 1 3/4" pin drilled pin below ring and cg stacked. He originally wanted me to plug and redrill this one but with 3 1/2 top weight and so short a pin I talked him into this Doom. Pin is 3" and top is only 1 7/8. I am thinking pin above bridge and even more toward middle finger ( this will be 5 " to axis ). Question is where do I put the cg to help prevent the dreaded roll out he gets. If I put it in palm, this will keep breakpoint sharp which is fine as long as it gets down lane first. This ball is also 14 lb to help some with speed. Give me your thoughts please, Thanks, Al

How slow is very slow? What skill level are we talking about. If you start to put him in something too week it will not be consistient enough with the hitting power if you can supply more info on his speed pap and rotation I could offer a suggestion in a stonger ball.

Slick300,

Thanks for the reply....PAP 4 3/4 O and 5/8 Up...ball speed 13....revs 220 ish...still thinking Doom at 5 to 5 1/2 from PAP above fingers and CG in palm? This ball should still give him some pop as long as it doesn't roll out. I am fearful of a 1 inch PAP distance due to rollout. Thanks guys, Al

The Visionary Slate Blue Gargoyle would be a good ball for your customer (I know you didn't ask that, but I'm throwing it in at no extra charge).  Pearl urethane with a dynamic core, reacts like urethane but hits more like resin.  --  JohnP

Thanks JohnP,   I also suggested a burgundy Pure Hammer as I have sold these to a few down and in slow ballers, but this guy wants to still swing it some....We will give this a try and will post results back. Slate Blue has great possibilities too....hmmm.  Thanks, Al

You could also put the pin a couple of inches above the fingers and then have Him throw it if that works and the static weights are ok then you are all set if not put a weight hole to increase the rection. I did this with a Track Heat Blast to create more length with pop. Also altering the surface to smooth 2000 to 4000 abralon instead of polish to get it further dowm the lane and be able to stay in the oil if it is polished he will be limited to the area on the lane he can play if it is a typical house shot the shot probably drys up fast for him and there is no where to go. any further questions you can pm me if neccessary.
