How to drill strong asym ball to be more versatile?
« on: June 19, 2016, 03:04:00 PM »
My older asym drilled 50 x 5 x 40 pin high above bridge (higher tilt and rotation release) was too strong for most house shots and worked well only a few conditions.  I play very few tourneys so I am looking to make my next asym fit a medium to higher oil house shot a little better - more versatile.  What dual angle layout is good for this?  Thanks!
MOTIV Jackal LE .................40 x 4.5 x 40 p2.5
MOTIV Revolt Vengeance......45 x 4.0 x 50 p3
MOTIV Forza GT ..................50 x 4.0 x 70 p2.5
MOTIV Sigma Sting..............50 x 4.0 x 45 p3

40* X 4" X 33*, P2 or P3 WH as needed.

Going to depend on the coverstock of the ball. Not all coverstocks are the same and not all asymmetric cores are the same.

Asked another way....are there any layout factors that help make a ball more controllable?

Pin to pap, weight hole locations, surface tweaks. Lot easier to consider ideas when you have a specific ball for a specific bowler. Having a 50 x 5 x 40 layout on 5 different asymmetric bowling balls can have different results depending on the ball and it's designed characteristics.

Same layout on a different ball will likely have different results....adjusting surface on the previous ball in question or adding a weight hole could also change the reaction to make it more user friendly on normal house shots. Knowing the previous ball and the future replacement would be helpful.

Pat,

If I may ask why is 40 X 4 X 33 weaker of more controllable than
50 X 5 X 40?

Personally, on a house shot, I prefer the MB either in of left of thumb (RH), and adjust the pin height to match the amount of move off the spot I want. I also don't like super high intermediate diffs on house shots.

Impending and OP,

Interesting question.  So I remembered Mo used to have a drilling called Super Symmetrical to put on Assyms.

Basically Impending is describing it correctly mostly.

It does end up with the MB on the grip center line or in or above or below the thumb.
It is for long transitions!

Basically it is designed to hook like a Symmetrical but hit like an Assym!

Also,

The pictures do not come up but the descriptions are there on this link.
