Strange Layout
« on: June 16, 2008, 06:31:36 PM »
I am looking for something long and controlled. I had an idea yesterday when I started backhanding the ball on a dry pattern. The ball seemed much longer and controlled. So what kind of reaction would I get if I laid out a ball with a left handed layout on a right handed ball? That is if I can get the ball legal without putting a weight hole on my track...

Well... I have not the biggest experience and am by far not an expert. But I'll give my oppinion:

With a "lefty layout" - You are drilling the ball with a long pin-pap and a negative cg. You would need a weighthole on your NAP (negative Axis point) and how this will influence the ball motion then I have no plan (well as long as it is ON the Axis the hole has no influence except shifting the static weights back to legal, no?)...

It will just be the combination of long pin-pap and negative static weights...

We all know from the "CGNOMADDAHWHATSOEVER" Vids that negative cgs/statics tame the backend which is what you might want.

Dizzy, I'm just dealing in basic ideas right now. Just looking for a general idea of what the ball would do.

what ball is it? i just drilled a jolt pearl negative with about a 3-4 inch pin. LAYOUT, i placed the pin roughly 1-2 inches above my bridge( dont know exact distance) i then kicked my cg below my middle finger as close to my center line as possible. no weight hole was needed. REACTION, the ball flys through the heads, and has a strong backend move. i was very surprised to see this out of the ball. but, the ball does clip the thumb hole. but dont worry, many people that throw a "negative" ball will clip the thumb hole, just an idea. And remember, the higher you place the pin, the more length.

I like what I see out of my Toxic now with the following layout -

http://s181.photobucket.com/albums/x16/madcelt2000/?action=view¤t=IMG_0331.jpg

I didn't like it as much before because it was very over/under OOB on some shots and if I added surface it was WAY too early for what I was looking for.  Even with a flare reducing hole I didn't care for the reaction.

The above layout puts the pin 1/2" from my VAL and 4" from my PAP.  Since this ball started out with a TW of only 2.0 oz. no balance hole was required with this layout.

This ball is longer, but the controlled aspect of this layout isn't there.  Layouts like this seem to give bowlers like me with less than ideal axis tilt, more axis tilt.  My track on this ball and my similarly laid out Archon is at least an inch further from my fingers and thumb.
