Span make difference
« on: April 07, 2010, 08:34:35 AM »
Hello I have been bowling for 15 years now and never really learned about how drilling a ball effects how the ball reacts. I found a used ball that I really liked and used it from age 16-21and have loved to throw it. In the past year I bought 2 new balls trying to find a newer ball to replace my other one since it's over 10 years old. The 2 new balls I bought and had drilled were done differently than the chaos that I like throwing. The distance between the top 2 holes is much further on the 2 new balls and they font seem to snap like the chaos. I throw the ball very fast and was wondering what I should do with 2 new balls that just don't work the way I want. Any information on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks dean

There is a lot of information missing so it is hard to guess what may be right or wrong with what your throwing in how it matches up to your old ball.

Just as a first guess please make sure you have thrown the new ball or balls more then a few games. Some really start to come a live and roll the way intended after having 10 plus games on them.

After that I would look into the surface of the new bowling ball. Since it has already been drilled the next easiest thing to look at and make adjustments to with out spending much money is the ball surface.

That is a start with out having much information. Also did you talk to the person or proshop that drilled the ball?

Sorry about the lack of information, I wrote the previous paragraph on my iTouch while I was at work earlier today.  The ball that I refer to as my go to one is a Columbia TEC Chaos, and the two new ones that I refer to are a Black Widow Pearl and a Brunswick Maxx Zone.

The Widow and the Zone both have well over 50 games on each one of them and I would say I average around a 200 with both of them.  While the Chaos has who knows how much on it and I can easily pull a 210-215 with it consistently.

I did talk with the man at the pro-shop and he drilled both new balls for me.  The only think I told him however was that I wanted them drilled exactly the same as my Chaos which I'm not sure of buy maybe was a mistake.

Not sure what you said about the surface of the balls but I think I added some information that you were asking for and I greatly appreciate the help.  Please respond again soon, thanks Dean
