Title: Strong midlane w/ controlled backend?
Post by: Gene J Kanak on December 29, 2004, 01:21:44 AM
Hey everyone,

I just received a Super Charge in a transaction on this site and I'm not sure how to drill it. I've only seen a guy throw this ball, but he throws the ball much slower than I do. I guess I'm looking for a drilling that will give me an early midlane read and a soft, smooth arc into the deck on medium-heavy to heavier conditions. Here's my current arsenal:

Flood: Track Animal (with surface)
Heavy: Thing Lives (Polished)
Med-Heavy: X Factor Ace
Medium: X Factor Pro
Med-Light: Reaper 2
Light: Sonic X Pearl
Spares: Target Zone

Polished, the Thing Lives works well on heavier mediums with clean backends, but I'd like to get something that rolls a touch earlier and is more tame on the back. Because I really don't "need" this Super Charge, I'm willing to experiment with unfamiliar layouts. Any suggestions as to drilling and coverstock prep of this ball would be helpful. Let me know if you need any other info about me. In general, I would say that I track higher than average (1-2" from fingers), with above average speed and above average revs.

I can't bowl 300, but I can bench 310 : )

Gene-O,..I have a Thing Lives that is one of my favorite reactions,..much like you described. I'm a 4 3/4 x 1/2" up PAP. The ball has a 2 1/2" pin, drilled with the pin about 1/2" under the ring, and the cg about 3/4" on the neg side, and on the midline,..super smooth, good midlane move, and still continues through the pocket,..my favorite at the SR High Roller this year where I played 23 to 14, with medium speed.

For his style, I think this would be a too strong of a drilling. I have a style similar to yours gene, and my tpc player drilled 5 by 5 with the pin under the bridge has very similar specs rg and diff wise and has just the move you are looking for. The core and cover will want to naturally roll early, just as with the tpc player, the long pin will get you length, while the pin down will start the ball up nicely. Put a hole in the thumb positive if necessary.
