My proshop guy said that although i bowwl at a know desert,It wold be better to go with a weak reachtive(hype pearl) with a straight up drll pin abovve ring add cg in palm,intead of a stronger core urethane.Any suggestions,Thanks

from my experience urethane is usually early and then just a weak roll, a weak pearl reactive will want to break late... depending on how you throw the ball a late reaction may be much better than a early roll.

It really depends on the length and type of oil pattern, lane surface, lane maintenance and your individual speed, revs, etc. The basic difference is even a relatively weak reactive responds to friction much quicker, especially when polished. If you need to play inside, reactive will probably be the way to go. What are others with a style similar to yours doing? It may require some experimentation.

Your pro shop guy is wrong unless he has specified some other conditions.

It depends on the actual oil situation and your hand and the ball, be it urethane or resin.

There are all sorts of urethanes available to handle all sorts of oil or lack of it, from medium oil to the lightest. Most of them do require you to stay outside of the 3rd arrow. But they can be drilled all sorts of ways and their surface can be manipulated also.

With some resin pearls, you can play deeper if you need to do that. That also depends on both the drilling, the ball and how you throw the ball.

I have played as deep as the 5th arrow, but still prefer to use urethane on many light oil conditions. Currently my ball of choice for light oil with spotty backends is a Seismic Desperado. I have other light oil resin balls that I love when the need arises.

I think you need to try a variety of other urethanes, especially one or more of the newer ones with dynamic cores. Maybe add some shine to them.
The Seismic Desperado even has an asymmetric core, and is a pearl urethane with a silicone additive for more length and much more backend.

I use both it and an AMF Hype urethane and neither one of them has what could termed a "weak roll".

the only urethane balls I have ever used are very old and dated... this is why I put "from my experience". I have not thrown a newer one because simply put increasing ball speed and adjusting hand positions are a lot cheaper than a new ball.
