I had a few Columbia Drives around. I think this is a nice assymetric to poke a few holes in so I tried this drilling recommended from Morich.

Basics. Pin up 1 1/2 from grip midline(low pin). Pin to PaP 4 1/2 Pin to cg about the same and mass bias straight under thumb....say 1 1/2 inches.

From the Morich literature this drilling is suppossed to move like symmetric and hit like assymetric. (He calls it also a long transition drilling).

Summary....it does! THis ball really revs up and then when it starts it's move it is rounded and very continuous and really packs a wallop. Maybe too continuous but I have not added a weighthole which now after seeing reaction I believe will go on the VAL to add a touch of stability!

Have a similar looking drilling on my flashpoint which has often been a go to ball for me but it does not quite have the drive of this ball(oh bad pun!...sorry).

PPS Mo put a diagram of the path one would often take with this drilling versus his assymetric and flip assymetric drillings and this is where I ended up playing! A small swing over 13 out to 9 and lots of pop once I found this shallow swing. A much shallower swing than Assymetric strong mass bias position drillings!
PPPS very similar move to the symmetric AMF VP2 I just drilled pin under ring and cg down slightly...both a little too continuous but I like the drive move better.

The reason for that is that the MB is almost in the track. I remember reading that the reason you get the same amount of flare from asymmetrics regardless of the how far past 3 3/8" the pin is from PAP is because of the migration of the mass bias. After the pin has flared, the MB starts to flare as well. Putting the MB in or very close to the track takes it out of the equation, and you end up drilling like a symmetric ball.

Just an observation...

Took and actually put a mass bias on track on one of these balls... another Columbia Drive Pin over ring. (many of the stronger mass bias balls do not allow this option...the drilling sheets on the drive however show this option).

Reaction for me with this setup is absolute junk with a different spelling however.

Dead straight....no midlane and then a furious uncontrollable move...little carry!

Going to be twisting the mass bias ot a standard assymetric drilling with mass bias on other side of thumb soon(positive).

Ahhhhh!

First off let me tell you...this drive is a very unsung ball!

I had an alter Ego(udrilled) I was going to trade...not now...not after getting familiar with this fast revvin core(reminds me a lot of the Morich Sahara this drive) both in specs....revvin up and then it is pearl but I think a little stronger coverstock!

Next I put my standard assymetric an one!

SOOOOOOO the Drive and the Supersymmetric..

Well it may have been the oil pattern and it seemed wetter...due to a longer than 16 foot short run! Anyway moved left with all my balls and all of sudden pulled this one out....had now added a small weighhole on VAL on a line from grip center thru the slightly down cg.....real close to PAP.

Ball had that same smooth line with less backend(too continuous before).... STruck a lot!

Most surprising is in the old days I used to get a ton of strikes where the ball looked like it was late late late and barely going to get back to the head pin but with my typically big backend it keeps goin and going and goin and just ticks it with a last minute surge.

Can't typically get these in this house and get carry....but today this late move strike(think of those old Earl Anthany coming from right near the channel strikes) was tossin em around like matchsticks!

FUN...

Great smooth move....lots of revvin from thedrive....Love the drillin...

Love the Drive...I'll get back with reports of if this drilling can keep tossin sticks while being entering the pocket on board 16...instead of the usual board 18 this shot seems to usually demand!

Is it the Drive....the drilling or just the shot....yesterday???

I'll soon know!

If it is not the shot....There are a lot of people who will not be happy!

shelley...thanks for the info.

I wonder then if when drilling mass bias on track(on those balls that are weak enough mass bias effect and allow it...many of the new strongest ones don't). If the flare is then what one expects...ie it changes as one progresses from 3 3/8 to 5 1/4 like symmetric balls because of the reduction of the mass bias flare?
