I have done this with 2 balls. I did not like it with thumb weight as much.
I find a 2" pin has worked best for me with a low top wt.
so place the cg is on grip midline 1/2" towards ball track.
When I turned it up, I never liked pins less than 4-3/4 but maybe you could place it at 4" it you have long pin. if the backends fly, keep the pin low. you may wind up with 120 deg layout. I have used that as well. you may like that even better becuse it will let you play the track area longer.
in general I found that the CG placement on the left side of the grip( towards the ball track) help the core stand up quickly so it dosen't flip as hard off the dry. giving some control.
