Switch Grip question
« on: November 30, 2010, 10:08:28 AM »
I have a question about drilling inner sleeves. I have switch grip in all my equipment drilled with 1/4 reverse. I want to go to 3/8 reverse. Can i drill the inner sleeve with 3/8 reverse even though my outer is drilled 1/4? I don't want to have to plug them all if I don't have to. Thank's for any help.

I do not sell the switch grip. Is the original hole drilled with the pitch in the slug drilled "0" and the pitch drilled in the ball drilled 1/4? If so just drill the insert with 1/8 reverse and with the hole pitch of 1/4 that would get you to 3/8.

In most cases, the answer is yes, but like water boy said, it depends on the pitch of the original outer sleeve, as well as how large your thumb hole is compared to the insert.
All you do is put a new inner in one of the old balls, set the pitch you want on the jig as if you are drilling a slug, and go for it.
If the outer is at 0-0, you will probably be pushing it to go to 3/8r. If its at 1/4R, likely no problem.

Hope this helps.

Yes. Help's a lot. I would basically just be going from 1/4 to 3/8 reverse. And my thumb is only a 57/64. Thanks guy's.

I have 1 3/8 inners that range from 0R-3/8R with a 5/16R outer. My thumb is 57 ovalled to 1 1/32 @55*. That gives you an idea of how much you can change the pitch within the inner sleeve without changing the outer.

One thing that I am starting to see with some of the new cores (origin in the Anarchy, etc) is the bit starting to drift due to the high density material.
I have just started pitching the my outers at 0-0, with inners at 0-3/16R and it seems to help.

Also be aware that the additional 1/8R will shorten the span slightly.
