take a second here...
« on: May 22, 2008, 12:27:42 PM »
Can I try and drill a couple balls that have a 4 inch pin and a top weight over 3oz and use the "RICO" layout on them? My span is around 4 1/2... Would I be wasting my time trying it on these or would it be possible? I am affraid I would have to have a HUGE weight hole if I did this. What do some of you guys think here? Thanks, John

IMHO, I would try a modified pin down/hole down drilling with a moderate/aggressive pearl first.  I've got a Fury Pearl with a drilling like this and absolutely love it.  It's got the pin about an inch or so above the center of the grip and the hole @ 45 degrees 6.75" from the pin through the cg.  It's damned close to a Rico drilling but not exact.

Those are actually good specs to rico if you want one!I would only do one ball to see if you like it.I have one,but rarely get to use it,as it rolls VERY early!

DeadBait... My PAP is 3 1/2 over and 5/8 up, so this really wouldnt give me the same look as persay someone else. I am correct I feel on this, but if I aint then please someone tell me different.

The location of my PAP would seem to give me a roll that someone else has when they place their pin under their ring or something. I am sure the more down the pin the earlier but giving my PAP, it would be close to my wheelhouse area of say 4 1/2 inches from my PAP.

The only problem I see(I'm not a driller), is that your CG with 3oz weight would probably be about 3 1/2" rt of center leaving a whole lot of weight to remove meaning a deep gigantic hole.
A pro shop operator may want to give opinions on this.

Good point Saw, thats what worries me about this. I am not very good guessing what the static weights would be in a ball because I dont normally use any type of exotic drillings.  I may just try one and see how it turns out as far as that goes. I think both balls have the same specs so Im sure they may end up similiar in static weights...
