Thanks for the help
« on: September 29, 2003, 08:55:42 PM »
I just wanted to say thanks to T-GOD and everyone else who help participate in my little experiment on the dry lane deal.

For those who don't remember.  I was drilling up a go long straight ball with a good arc at the end for the late night second squad bowling after open play with no oil shot that usually frequents when I bowl league.

I settled on a V2 pearl that had a 2" pin.  I wish it was longer but that is what I had to experiment with.

I drilled this ball with the pin under the middle finger and the cg kicked right with a large weight hole on the axis point.

I started with a polished coverstock and no Elixir to see what would happen.  Well this ball gave me lots of length about 35-40 feet before the weight block kicked in and then began to make it's slow gradual arc. It then went left and continue to go left without deflecting off the pocket.  This is a 14lb ball as well.  So you can see why I was experimenting.  This ball retained more energy in the backend and reved up very well.  Very few ten pins but the jump at the end left me with a few 6-10's.  Totally different look on the lane then what I am used to seeing. By the way was throwing this ball from 18-22 at the arrows out to 10-12 at the breakpoint.

This week I am going to alter the coverstock to a 600 grit wet sand at 800rpms on the spinner and start with the axis straight up on the spinner.  I am also going to apply the Elixir to see what the reaction will be like.

I will throw again this week and see if I can throw this ball into the carry down and see if it wants to squirt or if it an hold the line better.

Doc, I also have a V2 Pearl that I just love for almost dry to medium-light oil and it is drilled similiar to yours. My ball has a 3" PIN. The only difference is my PIN is under the bridge and about 1/4" right towards ring finger and CG kicked out 1 3/4". I left the cover in box condition and never did anything to the cover. I believe the ball comes in box, sanded to 800 grit and highly polished.
