drill bit for vent holes

What size bit should I be looking at?  How do you drillers go about using one?  Via drill press, black and decker or what?

If I remember correctly a vent hole cannot be larger than 1/4 in dia.
Usually the vent holes I have seen are 1/8 dia.
They can be drilled by hand(Black and Decker) or by a drill press.
I think Brunsnick had a blurb on this on his website.

I use a long 5/32 (or maybe 5/64 I'll have to get back home and confirm it...I think it's 5/32 and I'm laughing because I can't remember right now) bit from Lowe's. Works perfectly.

I typically go back 7/8, move over to about 4:30 and then drill with 3/4 to 7/8 forward pitch. Hits the hole about 2 inches down. I do it that way because I tend to drill thumb holes shallow on purpose.

BrunsNick's video will tell you everything you need to know.

I drill a hole in the slug along the vent line, seems to work good and easier then drilling a vent hole.

I've been using that system for about 10 years & it's perfect. No extra holes in the ball either! I drill the hole about 1/4" up from the bottom in the groove. That way tape doesn't block the hole.

There's at least one company, I don't remember which one, that makes slugs that are predrilled with a small hole through the vent slot.  You do have to be careful not to fill the slot with glue though.  --  JohnP
