Never put this on a pearl before...
« on: January 21, 2009, 10:37:18 AM »
My favorite layout is 6x4.  I have it on a T-Road solid, Street Rod Solid, Hy-Road, and a Dimension.  I get a nice clean through the heads and a very predictable hard arc of the spot.

My question is, what would I expect out of a Rapid Fire Pearl.  I imagine it would be cleaner through the heads and not so skid/flippy.  Am I right.

Me: Power stroker, pap 5 3/8, 3/8 up.  Speed is 15-16 (brunswick) med-high rev rate.

Me: "These lanes are tight. I have 2 boards!"
My buddy with front 8: "Me too!"
Me: "Yeah, but yours both have arrows on them, and an arrow in between!"

it is definately gonna have some length. Depending on the height of the pin from the midline is going to give a little bit of the idea on the shape and where you drop in the balance hole. Te ball itself is pretty strong and angular. I would maybe try the solid rapid fire before a pearl if you don't want it to be skid flip. This also all depends on the lanes you are on.

I wasn't planning on using a hole.  Layed out it looks like this:

--p----
--0-0--
----c--
---O---

I just don't like the over/under I usually get with pearls.  But I need lenght.  I just don't know how its gonna react.  I don't have much luck with pearls.

Its going to depend on how you throw it, the lane conditions, and the strength of the ball.

The ball will get maximum length with maximum backend reaction. I love that pattern with it below the finger and the cg kicked out with a weight hole low and right of my thumb.

I've drilled two solid reactive balls like that and its clean through the heads and strong on the back.

I had two Ebonite Pumas one drilled identical to what you are going with and the other having the pin below the finger with the cg still in the palm and no weight hole.

Because of the aggressive coverstock both were hard to control. They were clean through the heads with very very sharp break points on the back ends which could lead to splits.(very unforgiving)

With the ball made to be clean through the heads and you using a pattern to make it go even longer I think depending on the lanes, even with hi revs, it may not be a very good choice except on drier lanes, and if the backends are hooking could be too unpredictable to score consistently because of the sharp backends.
