Thumb hole + heat and temperature
« on: November 24, 2006, 02:21:02 AM »
This topic was very confusing to me at Physics 2, (heat and temperature and materials expansion-contraction). Is it supposed that the thumb hole is going to expand when the weather is cold or hot? I know, I know, I can find it somewhere anytime at the web but told to myself "lets ask this to our good friends at br.com".

-Thank you very much

In my experience,it is my thumb that changes more. This can be due to many factors:temperature, diet, number of games bowled, time of day, elevation, etc.

the hole gets bigger when its cold, and visa versa when its hot(like right off the press or after its been in the oven) it gets smaller.

Physics 101: Heat expands, cold contracts, as does one's thumb and fingers depending upon the climate (smaller in the Winter, larger in the Summer). In the Summer I use a 15/16ths thumb and can go up to 61/64ths. In the Winter I generally use a 59/64ths.

It's not the thumb hole per se' that changes it's the bowlers thumb.
