Thumb Hole HELP!!!
« on: February 08, 2010, 07:20:05 AM »
Can anyone help with this? I had been having issues with my game of late; release, inconsistency, issues with holding the ball.  I had been attributing this to lack of concentration, focus, and bad day excuses.  Well a friend who uses the same driller just so happen to see someone else the past week and the new driller stated that our guy had been maybe screwing the thumb holes up.  The thing is the thumb holes are not smooth the interior is rough and uneven, noticeably!  Would this throw of your release or make the thumb hole pitch or drilling untrue?  Some advice would be appreciated.

Smoov, our guy uses this tool to scrape out the thumbs.  He is not able to duplicate the finish for the thumbs from ball to ball and that was an issue for me.  I strongly believe that it does change the pitch and the timing of your thumb (release) as one ball is different from the next.  Not just a slight difference but a big difference...as in size, pitch and width.  You saw my thumb holes, some had two pieces of tape and some have six or eight!!

Since I changed drillers my release has been smoov as butter!  Comfort is the key and if it doesn't feel right on your hand it really screws with your mental game.  I now have the comfort as well as confidence each time I hit the lanes!

I have a tool similar to the one noted, but I normally use a strip of drywall screen (120 grit) an inch or so wide & 3 inches long to work out my oval thumbs. Cuts the slugs very nicely & leaves a semi-smooth surface inside the hole.
