slug problem

I am not sure what is going on but everytime I drill a hole say 1 1/8 in size for a slug the slug does not fit in tight it slides right in. I mean you set it on top of the hole and it will fall in. I think it should fit snugger so it stays glued in. Please help

your drill bit might be cutting oversize, might need to be reground/resharpened. Also you could have some play in the spindle on your drill press. If I were you i'd get some calipers or micrometers and see what is going on.

I have to use a hammer to put my slugs in.
Check your bit...could be the wrong size or oversize (mismarked Chineese product?)
Check you drill press (worn spindle bushings).
Check you ball jig...if the ball is jumping around in the fixture, the hole will end up oversize.

Sounds like the bit was mismarked or resized wrong if it had ever been resharpened before. The slug should not slide in the hole. You should have to tap it in with a rubber mallot.

I'm not a driller, but I've seen that from other drillers. Even if your bit chatters a little while drilling it could make the hole slightly oversized. Thumb slugs coming loose while bowling is not a good thing!

Just another thought. Have you tried another manufacturers slugs to see how they fit? It coukd be the slugs you have are undersized.

I know about a year ago, the 1 1/8 Vise slugs were shorter than they are now. I did have a few Turbo slugs that were just a hair thinner than the Vise, that was fun....

The ball doesnt move around or vibrate in the jig while drilling. The bits look generic but also it does appear to my eye that maybe there is some play in the spindle is that an easy fix never done it before. The hole is big enough it will fall right in now you dont see any gaps but I really hate to glue one in and have it come out while I bowl I am using vise slugs. How does one replace the bushings if need be thanks

The drill bits are gillmack bits. I thought about taking a grinder and shaving a tad off the bit do you think that would work as well.

If you are going to do that I would take the bit to a tool grinding business.  They will be able to grind it to the exact dimension you want.
