Title: thumb pitch vs thumb snugness
Post by: J_w73 on February 19, 2016, 05:16:49 PM
I'm 3/16" reverse in my thumb with a 4 3/4" span. I don't feel I squeeze, but I need to have my thumb very snug to be able to get hold onto the ball and get a good release. I've tried going more forward in the thumb and just can't get out of the ball.  I'm wondering if going with a looser thumb would help me get out of a more forward pitched thumb hole.

For those that have experimented with changing their forward and reverse thumb pitch, when you went more forward pitch in the thumb, did you find that you needed to have a looser thumb hole?

What's your lateral?

What's your lateral?

You've seen me throw the ball.  You've seen my fit.  I have a weird hand.  3/4" right.  I need to have my thumb so tight that I'm developing some hard callous area.. not bad but some.  I just tried to get into one of my older thumbholes and it was very tight side to side.. So my thumb is getting a bit bigger.  Just thinking if I might want to try to use a larger hole , use some of the grippier rubberized vise tapes in the front to help with the ball holding on.

You're creating callouses due to the angle your thumb is forced into and the not allowed to exit in a natural way...generally on the sides...
I would do a simple adjustment...subtract an 1/8" in angle or 1/16" right lateral and reverse
See what that does overall

So go 1/16  left and 1/16 forward from where I am now?

Yes...3/16" reverse and 11/16" right lateral correct?

I'm at 3/16 reverse now.. so that will bring me to 1/8 reverse , 11/16 right lateral

Do you recommend just going with a round hole and fitting with tape until I get the pitches just right, since altering the pitches could change my oval angle of my thumb?

Ya if you can swing it...that'd prolly be easiest...
