is it a better to put the thumb under the ring finger or to put the thumb in between the finger?

for instance, my driller Drills Middle finger, then offsets the ring finger 1/8 Further then the middle. THen drills thumb 5" from middle between fingers. THis keeps the thumb on line.

This is an optical illusion guys. There have been many posts on this but the thumb is centered between the middle and finger holes, unless you use an offset thumb, but when you look at the ball it does look like it is centered under the middle finger but it really isnt. Nine times out of ten, the bowlers ring finger is an 1/16" to 1/8" longer than the middle finger so this is how it looks offset.

Correct!

However, take a look at Jeff Carters span length and thumb location via his web site. His span length is the same for both middle and ring fingers but his thumb is far off set left.

You could turn his bowling ball in a way to make it look like the ring finger span is longer even though it isn't.
