Drilling Question for a short pin
« on: July 19, 2009, 04:09:05 AM »
I have a Storm Dimension with a 1 1/2" pin and was looking any way of getting some length out of the ball. I'm afraid with the short pin it will just check up too early for me. I'm looking to play the ball @ 1000 for the heavier house shots. I'm a stroker with speed around 14.5 mph.
Any suggestions or try and resell it ?

First:it is the wrong ball for length and backend, if that's what you want. Second: depending on the top weight, the short pin may force you to place the pin under the fingers, and this also does not promote length and fast transition(backend to most). It is a good ball for heavy oil, but it is more of the rolly hook shape. The only way you could get some length is to put the pin 5" or so from your pap(probably under the fingers) and go higher than 1000 AB, and, use some polish. These changes would diminish the oil handling ability. There are many better choices on the market for length and quick transition I think I would try to sell it and get the right ball for what you are trying to accomplish.

The lower the TW on a 1.5" pin the more flexibility you'll have with layouts...

I don't want to say cgs don't matter, but for reaction, they really don't. All the length of a pin is for is the distance of the cg to the pin. And all the CG is for is the heaviest spot on the ball. It is only o make it easier to drill a ball and keep it legal. You can put what ever drilling on it, you might just have to have the fingers drilled to the core or  a very large weight hole. Ball reaction comes from the pin and MB is relation to your PAP. Static weights have little to no effect on your ball reaction. So, as long as you don't mind a high weight hole, don't worry about pin distance, it has no effect on reaction once the ball is drilled.
