Long Pin "blems" Layouts
« on: November 15, 2005, 01:55:29 AM »
HAs anyone drilled balls with 7" to 10" pins?  Somewhere I seem to remember seeing layouts for these types of balls with the pin towards the back side of the ball (away from grip)...  Not sure, but maybe the pin to axis distance would be measured to the negative axis point???
Does anyone have any layout info / drilling info for these balls?  Are these more trouble than they are worth?

Thanks,

For a 10" pin, you could mark a anti-pin on the opposite side of the ball and drill it like a 3-4" pin ball using the anti-pin.  Kinda like Visionary's AMB system.  A 7" pin would still give you a 6-7" anti-pin length, so it may not help much.

What I'd be worried about is how much bottom weight you'd start with using the anti-pin.  Whatever the top weight was to start with, that's how much bottom weight you'd start with using the anti-pin.  A 10"-pin, though, might very well have almost no top weight, if only to get so much weight on the bottom of the ball to create such a long pin.

It's not ideal, but what else are you gonna do with a 10" pin?

Static weights are based on the CG, not the pin.

But if you have a 9"+ pin, you're looking at the CG when you're drilling a negative pin. The big problem with these are asymmetrics, without a locator pin you'll need a Determinator to figure out how they'll roll.  Symmetrical cores are no problem.
