Versatile Layout/Cover
« on: November 12, 2005, 06:25:10 PM »
i recently purchased a Backyard Bully on ebay for $50 because it is an x-out/x-blem ball.  Anyway, I bowl, whether it be practice or league at 5-6 different houses on a regual basis. The shots as can be expected widely vary from house to house.  I lack the funding to buy multiple balls so I was wondering if anyone had any insight on what would be a pretty versatile layout for this ball (without an x-hole) along with coverstock alterations to help versatility as well.  I like to throw the track area with med-high revs and a more end over end roll adjusting speeds to fit the condition.  Any input would be greatly appreciated...if more information is needed to respond please ask...thank you

First thing you need to do is determine why the ball is an X-out.  Be sure to have your driller confirm the cg location.  Assuming it's an X-out for cosmetic reasons, I'd suggest a pin to PAP of 4 - 5 1/2" with the cg near the grip center.  After you've thrown it on a variety of conditions, if you want a later break with sharper back end, sand it to 1500 grit, then polish to 2000 grit.  If you want it to break earlier and be more arcy, take it down to 600 - 800 grit unpolished.  Good luck.  --  JohnP
