OK, say C.G's don't matter, how should we drill blems?
« on: February 24, 2005, 01:15:12 PM »
Most blems I see with dramatic pinouts(6+) usually have the C.G in the palm and the pin swung over the fingers, or a little right, but under this "new" C.G. has no effect theory why have blems in the first place?  Should we just use a pin to PAP placement as if it were any other ball, then po the weighthole wherever it needs to be to legalize all static weight issues?  Just wondering because I'm looking at two balls with a 6 and 7 inch pin respectively, and I really want to go pin under the middle, or a little left of the middle on both with a "C.G." kick to the thumb positive quadrant.

DP3:  The problem you will have those extreme pin out balls is that they will probably require a weighthole in the thumb positive quadrant.  This weighthole will of course cause the ball to start up quicker and lose rotation sooner (because of the resulting mass remove from the lower side of the core) which may not be what you want.

and the ball still might not be legal, even with those provisions.

Greg T, I think the whole point of the cg issue is that yes, in theory, a heavy spot has to make a difference because of the laws of physics.  The cg placement must make a difference.  It has to, physics is fact not myth.  The point is, however, in today's advanced bowling equipment (cores and coverstocks) the difference is so minimul that it is irrelavent.  That is what companies like brunswick and ebonite have found.  Not that it has no effect period.  That the effect is so little that it is useless to consider in attempts to shape ball reactions.

I wonder why Ebonite shows all those different cg postions on their drill sheets.

I know Brunswick really doesn't because almost all their directions(7 most useful drillings).  Designate a pre weighthole cg position of 3/4 of an ounce.

Only one drilling shows a different cg position of these 7.

PS when drilling Brunswick balls I have usually followed these rules emphasizing pin position, 3/4 sideweight and weighthole position for final reaction tweak!.  For the reason that I have found that Brunswick balls when drilled with cg out REALLY rev and roll Too early!

LL, pins beside or under RF and CG's out or MB's placed at 65-70 degrees right for RH's and weight holes on the VAL work perfect for me on all Brunswick Balls as well as Enonite, Storm, and Track....So it really depends on the bowler and the bowler's style.
